indoor and outdoor environments

Children have access to beautiful indoor and outdoor environments, all day long, all year round. They have long periods of time when they can play both inside and out, observed carefully by our staff. We strongly believe children learn best through play and so we make sure that the environments they play in are well planned, organised and resourced with clean, high quality resources to promote high quality engagement.

Our indoor environment offers;

  • library with fiction, non-fiction and poetry books
  • drawing table – ‘mark making’
  • the water works – water play
  • the little house – role play
  • block play and small world
  • a studio – paint, colour mixing, clay, modelling, joinery, tinkering
  • ICT (pc, ipads, cameras, remote controlled toys, interactive whiteboard etc.)
  • the children’s kitchen for baking, cooking and snack
  • the dressy up room – music, movement and dance
  • the snug – a place to relax
  • the Pod – a space for physical group work eg drumming, dance, yoga, zumba etc.

Our outdoor environment offers;

  • beach, with rocks and tree trunks
  • water pump with channels and waterways
  • shed with open-ended resources
  • the cabin with log burner
  • the shack
  • outdoor blocks
  • shop
  • play village – 3 houses on stilts, connected by a ramp, steps and bridge
  • wild garden with stone fire pit
  • mud kitchen
  • natural dens
  • swing
  • fruit bushes and trees
  • chickens

Around the corner from school, we also have a Nature Garden, which was originally a community allotment, kindly granted to us by Wingate Parish Council;
